Bayern Munich 1-2 Inter Milan

Inter Shock Bayern: IPJ’s Tactical Breakdown & 2nd Leg Keys

What a team and what a performance it was from INTER against a Bayern team that had only conceded 27 goals in 28 Bundesliga games and only 14 goals at home in 14 games, with the 1 defeat at the Allianz Arena in Munich in league play.

Bayern’s Champions League record at home has been immense, with this defeat being their 1st in the last 23 at home in the competition.

Inter, they had other plans…

Here are some impressive Inter stats from the win in Germany:

  • Internazionale have won five consecutive UEFA Champions League matches for the first time since they won six in a row in the 2009-10 campaign, a season they lifted the trophy under José Mourinho.

  • Lautaro Martínez became the first Internazionale player with seven UEFA Champions League goals in a season since Samuel Eto’o in 2010-11 (eight).

  • Internazionale have won nine UEFA Champions League matches this season, their joint most ever in a single major European season, also winning nine games in the 1993-94 UEFA Cup.

Bayern sat back in a very deep defensive line for a lot of this game, especially in the 1st half, and they invited Inter to try and find a way to break them down. Inter found a way, but they had to be patient to do it.

So what now for BAYERN?

Well no time to rest back they have Borussia Dortmund and Der Klassiker coming up on Saturday.

Bayern are 6 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga from the current German champions Leverkusen and are an incredible 27 points in front of Dortmund who are now fighting for their lives to get into a European position for next season as they occupy 8th place on 41 points.

Dortmund have won only 4 games away from home this season in the Bundesliga and scored only 18 goals however they have won their last 2 Bundesliga games scoring 7 goals in the process.

Impressive Bayern Stats:

  • Bayern are the league’s highest-scoring side, having smashed in a sensational 81 goals after 28 matches, their rate of 2.89 goals per game puts them on course to outscore last term's unbeaten champions, Leverkusen, by the end of the campaign. “

  • Head to Head - Of their last 10 meetings in all competitions, the Bavarians have won seven. Extend that period to the past 15 games, and Bayern have won 11.

HOWEVER Dortmund need this badly and after losing the 1st leg of their UCL quarter final 4-0 against Barcelona they are at risk of missing out on European football next season if they don’t get something from this game.
